Nomad Two Worlds - Russell James - Alte Muenze Gallery Berlin August 2011 - Chogm Exhibition Perth Oct 2011 - ongoing.
NOMAD TWO WORLDS, created by photographer Russell James, is an international collaborative art project bridging artists from different countries and cultures in the name of social and political reconciliation through art.
Ken Allen Studios produced over fifty large scale prints (60"x84") from James' collection of photographs ranging from landscapes to Australian aboriginal culture to international Australian celebrities like Hugh Jackman to Haitian scenes. The canvases were then sent to indigenous artists in Australia, Haiti and the US to paint onto and add "story" into the images. The multi-media canvases were returned to Ken Allen Studios for high resolution (130 Megapixel) digitization. This allowed Russell to offer both original paintings and high-quality reproductions to raise funds for the indigenous people of Australia and Haitian causes. The final prints were shown in the first European NOMAD TWO WORLDS exhibition at Alte Münze Gallery, Berlin in August 2011. In October 2011, NOMAD TWO WORLDS premiered a new collection of collaborative pieces at the CHOGM Exhibition in Perth, Australia.
Ken Allen: "This project allowed us to shine because we were able to control the process through it's many steps. First printing the large format (60"x84") original images which were the base of the paintings, and then to digitize forty-five individually painted prints in such a way that we could reproduce all of the detail of the finest brush stroke on such a large print."
