Finishing is an important part of taking care of your digital prints. KAS offers mounting, basic framing, and packaging. We handle all sizes and mount on standard as well as custom materials.
MOUNTING
Rear or Surface Mounting
We use pH neutral pressure-sensitive adhesive film that creates a permanent bond.
Recommended Boards:
- Matboard: archival, acid free mounting board, great for conventional framing.
- Foam Core: best for temporary exhibits or for traditional framing. Available in a black or white finish.
- Gatorboard®: slightly more rigid than Foam Boards, it is used for temporary exhibits and traditional framing.
Available in black or white finish.
- Sintra® (PVC): a lightweight PVC-based semi-rigid material. Available in 3 and 6mm, it allows for either conventional or glassless display.
Available in black or white finish.
- .063 Anodized Aluminum: a smooth rigid material that comes in a variety of thicknesses and finishes. It is a popular alternative to conventional framing.
- DIBOND®: a composite material of 2 layers of aluminum bonded to a black thermoplastic core. It comes in a variety of colors and thicknesses; with a standard size of 3mm. Extremely rigid, it allows for thin and glassless presentation of both small and large pieces.
Front or Face Mounting*
We use an optically clear film with your choice of:
- Polycarbonate: hard-coat surface approaches the hardness of glass for scratch resistance and longevity.
- Plexiglas (acrylic): cut, finished, or polished.
- Gallery Plexiglas (acrylic) Package: Plexiglas (acrylic) with Sintra®, DIBOND®, or Aluminum back.
- Sandwich Plexiglas (acrylic)
*Requires smooth surface print.
FRAMING
Traditional framing is still the recommended way to display a final print, but there are several other non-conventional framing options, including backings and protective coatings.
Backings
Backings are attached to the rear of each substrate and add a dimension of depth from the wall. They are available as:
- Aluminum Z-clips: create a 1/4 inch distance off the wall
- Wood cleats: available in different depths, minimum 3/4"
- Wood or aluminum braces: they provide additional support for larger prints.
Coatings
Customers often refrain from putting their art work in a frame behind glass. As an inexpensive yet efficient way to protect their photographs from environmental damages, mishandling, or surface scratching we offer a variety of coatings. Depending on the type of print, we recommend sprays, hand coating, or laminate films. Our emphasis is to protect prints in the best possible manner.
- Renaissance Wax: applied by hand on commercial luster and fine art baryta paper, this special blend of refined microcrystalline fossil-original waxes prevents and reduces surface abrasions.
- Pressure Sensitive Vinyl and Polyester UV Lamination: available in matte, luster, or glossy finishes.
- Lascaux Spray: an acrylic UV protectant with high abrasion resistance.
- Clearshield: a water-based coating, it is used to seal prints on canvases to prevent cracking.
